One small mistake can have serious consequences in the world of social media. That's why it's important that you have a policy in place that promotes best practices and enforces guidelines that prevent mishaps. I posted a follow-up piece to that end. Would love to have your thoughts: http://blog.softwareadvice.com/articles/hr/social-media-policies-promoting-vs-policing-use-101101/

Hi Christine. You are most welcome and I am hopeful that the 4 questions article stimulates some thinking and action ideas for your readers. Simple for a purpose....engagement doesn't have to be driven by huge interventions...it really does begin with each individual just taking a little initiative to make things better by caring about others...from there the Impact simply grows positively. Cheers and onwards, Ken.

Thanks so much Ken for your powerful questions- so simple and yet we get caught up as leaders with complex statistics and measurements and "strategies" for engagement- it starts with showing an interest in the PERSON... and creating an authentic foundation.

hello Christine! I continue to pay it forward via the #TweetItForward fund that I set up. We give gift cards out for various purposes; a gas card to an unemployed man at the bus stop that had no $ to get to job interviews, a gift card for books needed for an inner city ministry, lunch or coffee for someone in line behind me etc. We have a lot more giving to do and others can donate to the fund too! You can learn more here: http://www.thenlifehappens.com/2011/07/24/why-should-you/ Giving is good for the soul!

Christine-I, like you, give people my trust until they give me a reason not to trust them. As you aptly point out though, in so doing the problem is if they do something to break that trust, it would be almost next to impossible to earn it back. Sometimes I wonder, if I made people earn my trust might I not be more forgiving if that trust were broken? I would have already invested a lot of time and emotional energy in deciding that they were worth trusting in the first place so would I really want to prove to myself that I was right in trusting them in the first place? Food for thought!
Very well written post with numerous valid points. I am definitely going to share this with some colleagues nest week!
